Hi, I’m Julia. So glad that you’re here!

I’m all about wholesome, farm-fresh, homegrown food. Getting dirt under my nails, growing it for my family and others, spending quality time in the kitchen preparing it with love, and teaching others about how important this all is to our humanity.

Most importantly, I’m passionate about the need for us to care about the world for future generations, starting NOW.

I envision a world…where everyone values and eats good, real food, and experiences the power in this everyday necessity.

I believe in a world…where everyone feels the powerful connection between food and life.

Because quality of food = quality of life.

I dream of a world…where we can take care of ourselves well and take care of others well, both now and in the future.

We all want to do our part to make the world a better place, leave it better than we found it, be useful in this life, and find meaning in our existence.

Yet we often feel helpless, like this is too much to take on.  That the world’s problems are too great, insurmountable, overwhelming.  I’ve been there. But I’m here to tell you, that in your own small way, you can do great things – you’ve been given a lifetime to do so.The way to access your particular genius is by getting connected to where you come from, to where your life comes from.  From the Earth, and the food that grows upon it.

That’s why I get dirty growing organic vegetables each summer, to get in touch with one of our most basic human needs – nourishment.  Growing food for me is meditative and spiritual, it connects me to the simplicity, beauty and preciousness of life – which is what I want to share with you!

Cooking does this for me too, when I do it – I am in love, in a flow, connected to something far beyond little ol’ me.  Food is the vessel through which I share my love with the world.

I teach nutrition-based cooking classes and do cooking demonstrations. I love cooking with others and teaching them how to make the world’s healthiest foods taste absolutely delicious, so there’s no sacrifice involved in caring for your body.

Feeding others comes by me naturally, coming from a long line of farmers, gardeners, and incredible home-cooks. I feel honoured to carry on this peasant-like family tradition, which I’m extremely proud to be a part of.

My approach to food is rustic, health-promoting, and pleasure-provoking. I think there’s nothing more romantic and perfect in this life than harvesting fresh herbs and veggies from the garden outside your door to make something delicious and nourishing with.

These are the values and simple pleasures that I’ve built my life around, and I’m on a mission to show you how you can find joy in the simple things, too.

To live organically and garden. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

I’ve cooked, I’ve baked, I’ve served, I’ve grown, harvested and written throughout my career, and I continue to do all of these things – in the name of helping others to have a brighter day, and create a ripple effect of kindness from the inside out.

I get it. I’m here to show you that there’s a happy middle-ground between living healthily, caring for yourself, and actually living a normal life. No need to count calories or worry about where you’ll find the time.

There’s a way to find balance. A way to create your own version of an abundant, ideal lifestyle.

Julia grew up near Stratford, Ontario as part of a long line of dairy and grain farmers. Leaving the country for the big city, Julia graduated from McMaster University in Hamilton with Honours in Communications and Cultural Studies. This time strongly established Julia’s love for the written word, and she continues to write. After graduating, Julia decided to refocus on her lifelong love of food – by jumping into the artisan bakery world and learning about life as a baker. She later attended the Meghan Telpner Institute for Culinary Nutrition in Toronto and set out on her own as an entrepreneur, establishing Gratitude Food to share her gift of healthy nourishment and wellness coaching with others. Julia also teaches cooking classes linking local, seasonal eating to healthy bodies in Community Kitchens, farmer’s markets, and schools. She is now carrying on the family tradition by building a small organic vegetable farm. In her off-season from the farm, she works as part of the Marie Forleo B-School team, helping thousands of entrepreneurs around the world to create the business and life of their dreams.
