It was an exciting week in the garden around here. Once July hits, things really get growing, exploding in all their glory, and the peak of summer abundance is just around the corner.

There are so many things to look forward to in the next few months; all of them are just getting ready to share their energy with us lucky people who get to eat right out of the garden. It’s such a gift, really!

This week, peas and beets made their yearly debut and it’s so exciting to be able to pick these beauties out of the garden and share them with others.

We also began sharing fresh eggs from our lovely heritage hens this week!

July 1st bounty

Now that hot summer days are upon us, I often find myself craving lighter meals and snacks, full of seasonal fruits to quench my thirst and keep me energized for all the physical labour in the garden.

I’ve also been drawn towards the idea of naturally protecting my skin from the sun’s rays – both through diet and naturally protective essential oils. If our bodies are in harmony, it should follow that our skin has a harmonious relationship with the sun. Of course, it’s essential to be wise and enjoy everything in moderation – including the sunshine!

Eating a diet high in antioxidants is a wonderful way to boost your skin’s ability to healthily absorb the sunshine and essential Vitamin D, without burning. Luckily, many of the fruits and vegetables that are abundant this time of year are naturally very high in antioxidant power.

In addition, gogi berries and raw cacao are two of nature’s most potent sources of antioxidants. Seasonal strawberries are also very helpful in this regard! Feel free to change up to blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries as they become available soon.

  2. Hi Joann!

This is the one that I’m currently using and love it; smells amazing and works fantastic to avoid burning, as long as applied regularly. http://www.livinglibations.com/default/everybody-loves-the-sunshine

I also love the Soothsayer Serum for the face, to repair damage and protect from the sun. http://www.livinglibations.com/default/soothsayer-serum-2349

I’ve also heard amazing things about Young Living’s Claraderm, combined with Carrot Seed essential oil for a natural SPF of 40+: https://www.youngliving.com/en_US/products/beauty/anti-aging/refining/claraderm-spray

Then, there’s also the option to make your own. I’ve tried this recipe, and just found it a bit messy and the ingredients add up to be pricy. http://www.tujawellness.com/how-tos/stick-it-where-the-sun-shines-diy-sunscreen-recipe.html

Hope one of these might work for you! xo Julia
